The National Trust have issued a bucket list of 50 things to do before you turn 12. Fiona Reynolds, director of the National Trust, said many adults remember a time when, as children, they roamed around unsupervised all day – Something which is unthinkable to some youngsters today.
This list was sent home from school on Friday encouraging parents to take part in these activities with their children.
With the rise in children being glued to the TV or games console all day its great that they are encouraging more traditional ways to play, like going sledging, building a den or flying a kite.
I am also a little concerned around the safety of encouraging children to go “wild swimming” and find it contradictory that the school are encouraging us to “play conkers” and “throw snow” when they don’t allow it for health and safety reasons themselves.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the list is great and I have to admit im quite pleased with myself that we can already tick a few off the list.
What are your thoughts? Has Health and safety gone to far? Should ew be encouraging more outside activities?
